PM announces Rs 370 billion development package for Gilgit-Baltistan
Gilgit-Baltistan, April 30 ): Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday admitted that he had made mistakes in allotting party tickets in the past.
Addressing a function after the unveiling of a Rs 370 billion development package in Gilgit-Baltistan, the Prime Minister said it was disappointing that the children of our former leaders and their property were abroad. The people who laundered money abroad are the biggest traitors. He reiterated that such corrupt elements only want to fill their pockets after coming to power.
Talking about the package, the Prime Minister said that it was the first time that such a large amount of money would be used for the development of this beautiful and strategically located region. He briefed the development package on hydel power generation and transmission projects, tourism connectivity projects, youth skills and scholarship programs, health system upgrades and water and sanitation projects.
In addition to focusing on expanding the region’s infrastructure, we will also support the development of small and medium-sized enterprises in the region. We will try to get international flights to Gilgit Airport.
Highlighting the vast and diverse tourism potential of Gilgit-Baltistan, Imran Khan said that this development package would prepare the region to attract tourists which would benefit not only the locals but the entire country. He was convinced that it would be up to him to take advantage of GB’s tourism potential.
However, he stressed the need to promote tourism in a planned manner to its real benefits. “Tourism in the region will not affect forests and mountains,” he said. Added that introduction of local government system in the region would help in taking the region forward.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed his commitment to change the country through a successful struggle against the corrupt mafia. He said that this is the first time that this mafia is being brought under the purview of law.
