Multan, April 26 ): Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday launched Kisan (farmer) cards for farmers in Multan and said that technology-driven cards would reduce corruption.
Imran Khan said he had decided to oversee the agriculture sector.
“I am happy to launch the ‘KisanFarmer Card’ initiative for modern agriculture and it will make a difference in Pakistan as farmers are the backbone of the economy. The more you move towards technology, the less corruption there will be.
“I have personally talked to the Chinese and included agriculture in the CPEC to bring growth to the sector,” he added. Imran Khan said that the government was also reshaping research institutes in the country.
“The government can also provide loans to farmers through Kisan Cards and at present we have increased the DAP subsidy by Rs 1,000 on these cards.”
He further said that the government has allocated Rs. 2 billion for the repair of canals which will save water in future.
During our tenure, farmers received an additional Rs. 1,100 billion in the form of support price of wheat and increase in prices of milk and other commodities. The private sector is also being introduced in the Union Council to incorporate modern trade practices.
Imran Khan also praised Punjab Chief Minister Usman Bazdar for the farmer card initiative.
Punjab Chief Minister Usman Bazdar said that government subsidy given to small farmers was often in the wrong hands and today we are launching ‘Kisan Card’ through which not only farmers will get direct subsidy but the government has all Farmers’ data will also be available.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has arrived in Multan on a one-day visit to inaugurate public welfare and development projects.
During the day-long visit, Imran Khan distributed farmer cards among the farmers. The Prime Minister also inaugurated public welfare projects including the e-Khidmat Center, Labor Housing Colony Industrial Estate Phase 1 and the new Shelter Home building.
Imran Khan also launched five Miyawaki forests under the Clean and Green Pakistan Campaign and the Multan Metal Road Rehabilitation Project.
The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of a Shelter (Panahgah) in Multan under the project of construction of Panahgahs in all divisional headquarters of Punjab Phase-I, 200-bed Mother and Child Hospital in Ghalla Godam Multan, and 10 water filtration plants in Multan.
Imran Khan will also inaugurate the foundation stone of South Punjab Secretariat.
